In the modern digitized world, it is not a matter of minutes to see a business fall on the stock market and become bankrupt. It has now become a matter of seconds. Every second counts for enterprises that are operating at a global level. A shortest of downtime can not only cause them millions of dollars but also may result at the end of the business. In this scenario, cloud storage is one of the solutions which has really changed the landscape of data storage, is now endangered of becoming extinct by edge computing.

Is this really going to happen? And

Can edge computing do what it takes to make cloud archive storage obsolete?

These are the questions which this article will attempt to answer.

Importance of Cloud Storage

Well, there is no defying from the fact that cloud storage has really made the data storage world experience the inexperienced and the flexibility, scalability, and security offered by cloud storage has made most of the enterprises and businesses from all over the world and from every field of life has been forced and convinced to shift their mission-critical data to the cloud.

Can Edge Computing Really Make Cloud Storage Obsolete

As there is no doubt what cloud storage has done for the industry and there is still a long way to go for cloud storage too, we can also not defy the potential edge computing has. Whether it will really be able to overshadow cloud storage and make it obsolete or will it just share some portion of the market, will be shown as the time passes by.

The Need For Edge Computing

The modern technologies like edge computing have become a buzz word, to be honest in the very recent times. Most of the people around the world have not yet been familiarized with this term even. Experts and analysts are actually expecting something miraculous happening from edge computing and that maybe is that edge computing can or will replace cloud computing.

Edge computing’s potential lies mainly in the fact that is it purpose-built for minimizing the time taken in processing and executing the data storage tasks. Well, in this digitized world, as it has been mentioned at the start of the article that every second count, enterprises can and will start counting on edge computing.

With more and more dependence on human lives and matters of life and death will be depending on how quickly data is transferred or accessed by the users, edge computing has some serious business in hands that is for sure. Edge computing makes applications work unimaginably faster and that is why it is a fast-growing technology and it is making people think it can replace cloud storage.

Conclusion

Cloud storage will remain there for the businesses which are not dealing with utmost urgent and nanosecond response rate applications or dealing with matters where lives of people are at stake, and edge computing will be adapted by industries like driverless cars, pilotless planes carrying hundreds of passengers and other similar kinds of businesses.
